The distinction between illustration and fine art can be extremely malleable. Although there are some condition problems that are unique to illustration - like an art director's notes scribbled directly on the painting in ball point ink, or perhaps a printer's registration marks glued down with rubber cement - from the restorer's point of view, it's simply art in need.
